AC Milan are reportedly planning a January move for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, according to reports.
Bailly has been on the transfer headlines in recent seasons due to his lack of playing time at Man United.
The arrival of Harry Maguire from Leicester City in 2020 limited his chances of getting back to the starting lineup. Last summer, United signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid and so far, that hasn’t helped in any way to hand the Ivorian more playing time.
Should his situation continue, the former Villarreal defender would force his way out of the club at the end of the season.
The report adds that Milan are looking at signing a central defender this winter transfer market in order to replace injured Simon Kjær.
Kjaer has been ruled out for six months, having undergone surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Danish defender suffered the injury during AC Milan’s 3-0 win over Genoa on December 1.
Bailly has made only seven appearances for Man United this term in all competitions, including his start against Burnley in the Premier League last week.
Though Ralf Rangnick has the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Phil Jones at his disposal, he may block any interest in Bailly.
Varane has struggled with fitness issues since joining Man United, hence unreliable for the long run. Lindelof has only recently recovered from COVID-19 and is expected not to be at his best immediately. Maguire returned to training after missing Wolves’ defeat with an injury.
Bailly, who is currently out with Ivory Coast for the ongoing AFCON, is under contract with Manchester United until 2024.
