Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has disagreed with Ralf Rangnick over claims he refused to join the squad to face Aston Villa on Saturday.
Man United would play a 2-2 draw against Villa at Villa Park without the likes of Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo due to injury issues.
Martial, who last made United’s squad in November against Arsenal, was expected to return back to the squad but surprisingly, he wasn’t and Rangnick was forced to start Anthony Elanga alongside Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood in the attack against Steven Gerrard’s men.
It’s obvious that the Frenchman wants to leave the club this month in a bid to get more playing time, something he hasn’t enjoyed following the summer signings of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As a result, the German boss froze him out of the Manchester United first team squad until his future is sorted out.
After the final whistle, Rangnick claimed that it was Martial, who refused to travel with his teammates to Villa Park on Friday.
“He [Anthony Martial] didn’t want to be in the squad, he would have been in the squad normally but he didn’t want to and that was the reason why he didn’t travel with us yesterday,” Rangnick said after the Aston Villa 2-2 draw.
Anthony Martial took to Instagram to deny Rangnick’s claim, insisting that he wouldn’t refuse a chance to play for Manchester United.
“I will never refuse to play a match for Manchester United,” Martial said.
“I’ve been here for 7 years and I never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans.”
The likes of Sevilla, Juventus and Barcelona have shown interest in the Manchester United forward.
