Atletico Madrid star to miss Manchester United tie after suffering knee injury in Levante loss

Atletico Madrid could be without Matheus Cunha in their squad when they face Manchester United in the Champions League next week after the player suffered a knee injury during their clash against Levante.

Atletico’s chances of getting back to their best form have taken yet another turn after Cunha was forced off with an injury during their 1-0 home defeat to Levante.

According to Marca, the Brazilian was injured in an attack and taken off immediately, which suggests he is poised to miss a few games, including next week’s Champions League round of 16 first tie against Manchester United, who bounced back to winning ways after beating in-form Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 on Tuesday.

Diego Simeone started Cunha alongside Angel Correa in attack and had been enjoying his best spell as an Atleti player in recent weeks.

Unfortunately, he will now have to sit out this weekend’s La Liga game against Osasuna away from home and probably miss Manchester United’s arrival on Wednesday.

Atletico Madrid will also be without Yannick Carrasco, who received a three-match ban for his misconduct during Atleti’s game against Porto.

The Belgian will miss the round of 16 both legs against Manchester United, handing The Red Devils a huge boost.
