Bruno Fernandes gives savage reply to Barcelona speculation

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes gave a savage response to reports leading him with a move to Barcelona.

Reports emerged this week that Barca would turn their attention on the Man United midfielder if they failed in their pursuit of Erling Haaland.

The Dortmund forward has attracted interest from the finest clubs in Europe, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Haaland could be on his way out of Dortmund at the end of the season, with the big names set to battle it out for his signature.

While the Norway star would only join one club, if he wishes to seek a new challenge, Barca are already planning on their alternative if they should be one of the teams to miss out on his signature.

According to El Nacional, the La Liga giants would attempt to lure Bruno Fernandes away from Manchester United if Haaland’s deal failed to capitalise.

But the 27-year-old prolific midfielder has banished the speculation in spectacular fashion, comparing it to an April Fools’ joke.

Responding to SPORT TV’s post on Instagram, he replied: ‘And I thought the new year only started a few days ago, yet we’re already on April 1! Or is this once again just bad journalism?’

Fernandes has been a key player at Manchester United since his signing in January 2020.

Though the Portuguese magnifico has struggled this season, most notably after the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, United still rate the midfielder highly.

Should Barcelona show more interest in the Portugal international at the end of the season, Manchester United wouldn’t hesitate to turn their offer down, given how they view the player plus Paul Pogba’s uncertain future at the club.

Pogba will become a free agent at the end of the season. PSG and Juventus are still looking to lure the World Cup winner.

United are said to be in talks with Fernandes’ agent over handing the midfielder a new deal, handing Barca and other suitors transfer bad news.
