Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed five Manchester United players ahead of City’s trip to Old Trafford on Tuesday for their first Carabao Cup semi-final tie.
United got the better of the Citizens at Etihad last month in the Premier League and the former Bayern Munich boss gave United forwards the credit.
Guardiola also thinks he will be expecting the same tactics Ole Gunnar Solskjaer used against them during their 2-1 loss to the Red Devils.
Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock early in the game before Anthony Martial’s left-footed strike double United’s lead and went on to be the matchwining goal, following Nicholas Otamendi’s late header.
Ahead of the tie, Guardiola said: “It will be quite similar. Of course at Old Trafford it will be quite different to here, but they are a team that are built to run.
“When they can run they are one of the best teams, and not just in England, I would say, because of the pace they have – [Daniel] James, [Mason] Greenwood, [Anthony] Martial, [Marcus] Rashford and [Jesse] Lingard.
“I have the feeling they are going to run, one or two or three times, or as many times as possible, and we have to reduce the mistakes in the build-up. We have to be prepared for that but we have to do our game.”
Manchester United went against every odd to fetch out a win from the reigning Premier League champions.
Guardiola doesn’t think his side were poor during the defeat as the Citizens created more chances and had more of the possession.
In addition, the City boss believes he has no need to change his tactics ahead of their trip to the other side of Manchester.
“I am not going to prepare our game just thinking, ‘don’t let them run’,” he added.
“We have to go there and try to score a goal, play our game and try to get a good result from there.
“Except the first minutes when we conceded three or four times when they could run, the rest of the game I liked a lot the game we played and the chances we created in many situations.
“I would like to play quite similar.”
