Cristiano Ronaldo told Romelu Lukaku will score more goals than him this season

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been told that Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku will score more goals than him this season.

That is according to Darren Bent, who claims that the majority of Chelsea’s goals this season will come through Lukaku while Ronaldo will have to battle his goals with the talents at Man United already.

United signed Ronaldo from Juventus this summer after the Portugal skipper made his desire of leaving the Old Lady known.

The Portuguese forward left Juve as the top goalscorer in the Serie A last season, five more goals better than Romelu Lukaku despite making few appearances.

Cristiano Ronaldo will look to replicate that same form at Manchester United, though he would have more challenges at United.

The likes for Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho would be challenging to get on the score sheet too.

Greenwood and Fernandes have scored three goals each this season already and will be looking to score more whereas Lukaku is viewed as the Blues’ point man.

Bent believes the number of goalscoring options available at United would be the reason Lukaku would finish as top goalscorer ahead of the 36-year-old.

Darren Bent backs Romelu Lukaku top Cristiano Ronaldo as top goalscorer

‘I think when you look at Chelsea and you look at the goals they get, I think a lot of them will go through Lukaku,’ he told talkSPORT.

‘Where as yes, we know how good Ronaldo is, but Mason Greenwood is going to chip in with some, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford when he comes back, Cavani. See he [Ronaldo] might not even play [all the games], but if Lukaku is fit he’s playing.

‘You look at Lukaku, Chelsea brought him for a purpose in terms of he has to play. That was the missing piece of the jigsaw for me and he’s already 1-0 up [in goals vs Ronaldo], he’s already got a head start.’

Ronaldo could make his second Manchester United debut this weekend against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
