David de Gea reacts to Norwich win, hails ‘top player’ Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was pleased with the win over Norwich City and also reserved praise for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Man United needed to bounce back against Norwich, having recorded a disappointing 1-0 loss to Everton away from home last time out.

Ronaldo scored a brace in the first half but Kieran Dowell pulled a goal back in the stroke of half-time. Early in the second half, Teemu Pukki completed Norwich’s comeback with a top finish.

Late in the game, Ronaldo scored his third goal and United’s third goal of the game with an outrageous free-kick.

Manchester United were inches away from losing all points against The Canaries shortly after Pukki’s equaliser but David de Gea pulled off a top save, which kept The Reds in the game.

The Red Devils have struggled this season, something the Spaniard agrees with, but de Gea believes the win is more important than how they performed.

“We know we are not at our best moment. The most important thing is the victory and we are closer to the top four,” he told BBC.

“The spirit is there. Everyone is dropping points ups and won so we have a chance. It’s not enough to be in the top four.

“We should control the game from the beginning and not give them chances. We give chances to every team so we have to improve a lot.

“We take the three points and let’s see on Tuesday [away to Liverpool]. I hope this victory gives us more confidence. We want to go there and try and win.”

Ronaldo has scored two hat-tricks in the Premier League this season against Tottenham and Norwich and both ended in 3-2 wins for Manchester United.

De Gea hails Ronaldo as a ‘top player’ and says the Portuguese forward only wants to help United move forward.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player, he always tries to score goals and tries to be there for the team,” de Gea added.
