Diego Forlan urges Arsenal target to join Manchester United

Former Uruguay international and Manchester United forward Diego Forlan has urged Darwin Nunez to move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Man United are expected to splash the cash in the summer in a bid to rebuild the squad that new boss Erik ten Hag would manage and challenge the likes of Man City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.

Manchester United have been linked with a move to lure the £60m-rated Benfica forward but are facing competition from Arsenal.

Forlan believes Nunez could be an ideal fit for his former side, who have gone five years without lifting a trophy.

‘I think that he is a very good player, a good kid who is doing really well at Benfica and is enjoying a strong season,’ Forlan told Breaking the Lines.

‘It is not just the Portuguese league where he is doing well but in the Champions League too, where he scored six goals this season and helped take Benfica to the quarter finals.

‘He [Darwin Nunez] is a player who has a lot of potential and he could fit in at Manchester United. But obviously, everyone needs to have patience, although he is getting better with more and more experience.

‘He would not be a bad signing for Manchester United and it would be nice to see him there. It is a club that gives you time, that makes you feel comfortable and as if you are in a familiar place, very cosy and nice.

‘It would be spectacular having him playing for Manchester United.’

The Uruguayan has developed himself as one of Europe’s brightest young strikers this term, having scored 34 times with six of those coming in the Champions League.

Should Manchester United successfully sign Nunez, the Uruguayan forward would join the likes of Anthony Elanga, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo as United’s forward players, though the latter’s future is uncertain at the moment.
