Former Manchester United forward Dimitar Berbatov has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Man United could take ‘action’ against him if results are were not improved.
The former Bulgaria international also warned the Reds that Mauricio Pochettino could be in a long line of ‘saviour’ that didn’t live up to expectations.
Manchester United have endured mixed performances this season, losing two out of five matches in all competitions this season.
Last weekend, United were smashed 6-1 by Tottenham at Old Trafford and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position at United is under pressure, just as it occurred last season.
Following the huge defeat against Tottenham, reports claim Manchester United have made contact with Mauricio Pochettino over a potential move to the Theatre of Dreams.
The Argentine boss was sacked by Tottenham last season following his horrid start to the season and was replaced by Jose Mourinho. Since his sacking, the former Southampton boss has not been appointed by any European club.
Pochettino was the top candidate to become Manchester United next boss in 2018, following Jose Mourinho’s sacking, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s impressive stats as caretaker boss convinced Man United bosses to change their stance.
The Norwegian boss is currently struggling to deliver results this season and could eventually lead to his sacking but Berbatov has warned the Reds that Mauricio Pochettino if appointed, could end up becoming one of United’s previous managers.
‘Ole Gunner Solskjaer has taken some criticism recently, I can understand why the odds say he is the most likely manager to leave his post, especially if they continue down this road,’ Dimitar Berbatov told Betfair.
‘The pressure on him will only continue to grow, and if they continue to fail to win points, the point will likely come where action is taken. I believe he is still fine for the job personally, and we will have to see.
‘To me, it is amazing that Mauricio Pochettino is available for this job, one of football’s finest coaches in my opinion. ‘You can say maybe he waited for this job, but that is very risky for a manager to do, and I cannot believe another club hasn’t snapped him up.
‘Pochettino may be ‘the man’, but at some stage, they were all ‘the man’- Moyes, van Gaal, Mourinho, all were the next saviour at one stage.
‘For United fans, I would say that every single person connected to the team in any way are all suffering. The ones that will express their feelings the loudest will be the fans, and I can understand this.
‘United are led by people who want success for the club, and the glory days will return, of that there is no doubt- just when that is, is the question.’
Manchester United will face Newcastle United at St’ James Park after the international break. The trip will come three days before embarking on another to France to face PSG in the Champions League.
Chelsea will face Man United four days later (October 24) at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to avoid defeats in these fixtures in order to control the noise around his future.
