Manchester United Women ace Ella Toone has explained how Cristiano Ronaldo has influenced her game and named the Portuguese icon as her role model growing up.

Toone has been in scintillating form for Man United Women this season. She has five goals and four assists in 10 FA Women’s Super League matches, making her the top goalscorer in the team.

She’s one of the best players Marc Skinner has at his disposal and the 22-year-old England international has explained how watching Cristiano Ronaldo while growing up impacted her game.

Ella Toone also made it clear that the Manchester United forward remains her biggest football model, thanks to Ronaldo’s work rate and desire.

“When I was younger I used to always have the No.7 shirt, every time I would have Ronaldo and seven on the back or Toone,” Ella Toone told Daily Mail.

“I used to always wear his boots as well. I still look up to him now with his work rate and desire. He’s achieved so much as a player, he was my biggest role model growing up.”

Toone’s biggest role model in Ronaldo moved closer to her when Manchester United resigned the 36-year-old forward from Juventus in the summer.

Though both the men and women teams share a training ground at Carrington, Ella Toone said she feels ‘gutted’ as she hasn’t met with Cristiano Ronaldo yet.

“I haven’t seen him yet, I’m actually gutted,” Toone said. “We train at Carrington now and the men are there but you never really see them. Hopefully one day I manage to bump into him!”

Manchester United Women smashed Aston Villa Women 5-0 at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday afternoon in the FA Women’s Super League, a game Toone scored twice.

United Women currently sit in the 4th position in the FA WSL with 18 points from 10 matches.
