Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to build his squad around transfer target, Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.

Man United have shown strong interest in De Jong, with several reports claiming the Netherlands international is ranking high on Ten Hag’s transfer list.

It was claimed that Barcelona were keen on cashing in on the former Ajax midfielder due to their financial crisis and United were also planning on using that as an advantage to lure the 26-year-old, though Ten Hag rates the midfielder highly.

Official reports this week claim that the club members have approved the sale of 49% of Barcelona Licensing & Merchandising. This means the La Liga club can now decide whether or not to sell loads of their senior players including Frenkie de Jong.

However, according to some Spanish outlets, Barca are still interested in letting the Dutch midfielder leave the club this summer.

And The Athletic have reported that Erik ten Hag is keen on building his new Manchester United squad around Frenkie de Jong.

The former Ajax manager, who has previously worked with the defensive midfielder at Johan Cruijff ArenA, believes the Netherlands star will help solve the long-term problem in the midfield.

Barca are demanding around about €80million, including add-ons, from De Jong’s suitors but United are expected to negotiate with the Spanish club in a bid to convince them to slash their asking price.
