Former Manchester United coach Michael Carrick is new favourite to manage English club

Manchester United legend Michael Carrick is reportedly the leading candidate to become Lincoln City’s head coach, according to The Sack Race.

Carrick became one of Man United’s backroom staff in 2018 under Jose Mourinho following his retirement from professional football four years ago.

The 40-year-old coach was also retained by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was appointed as Mourinho’s replacement in 2018 and got sacked in November 2021.

Carrick became United’s caretaker manager following the Norwegian’s dismissal and managed only three games, of which he won against Villarreal, Arsenal and drew against Chelsea.

He has been out of management since November last year but according to The Sack Race, Michael Carrick is the leading candidate to become the head coach of Lincoln City.

The League One side are without a coach and the former England international has been linked with a move to become their next boss.

He’s competing against the likes of Mark Kennedy, Ian Foster, Ian Burchnall.
