"I like him an awful lot" - Michael Carrick hails Man United star ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick has confessed that he likes Fred an ‘awful lot’, thanks to the energy he brings to the team.

Several Man United fans are finding it hard to come to terms with the Brazil international due to his limited contribution in the final third.

Last weekend at Stamford Bridge, Fred put out a resounding performance, defensively, but brought up more questions after lavishing what could have been a match-winning chance for Manchester United, with Cristiano Ronaldo in a position to do better than the chip he had at Edouard Mendy.

Regardless of the midfielder’s criticism, Carrick still believes Fred remains an important player at United.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the Arsenal game in Thursday night, Michael Carrick said of on Fred: “It gets overlooked that he is first choice for Brazil team. One of the biggest things people don’t see is desire to be a team player.

“Twisted ankle vs Villarreal, a lot of players come off, he got through that, no way he was going to miss next game.

Fred was impressive against Chelsea and set to feature against Arsenal

“He wants to be an important player. He played a little higher on the pitch than before because we changed some things.

“That mentality is infectious. I think he’s [fred] improved an awful lot.

“He brings a great energy to the team and he’s improving. He brings an awful lot to the team and I like him an awful lot.”
