Manchester United boss has made it obvious that he wants a new centre-back before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
United have been linked with a move to sign a top central defender, with Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng and Yerry Mina already linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
While the Manchester club are yet to finalise a deal with any of the players mentioned above, United tend to search for an alternative elsewhere.
The Atletico Madrid star Jose Gimenez is a potential alternative, that is according to The Independent.
Gimenez has been impressive for Atletico in recent years and despite being 23-year-old, the Uruguayan international has secured 124 appearances in the La Liga.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that Manchester United may wrap up a deal to sign Jerome Boateng from the Bundesliga champions but somehow the deal fell apart.
“I think in the last couple of seasons he’s been really, really poor, I think he had a terrible World Cup as well.
“So it would very much surprise me if this did come off and where he would actually fit in and whether he would actually start.
“Possibly (it’s a panic), maybe a backup almost to their top targets, and I think they’ve got other top targets like Alderweireld and like Harry Maguire, who I’d put straight away ahead of Jerome Boateng.
“In the World Cup and recent seasons, I think he’s been atrocious at times with his defending.
“So I think this week is going to be very interesting to see whether any of them get over the line.”
Manchester United begin their 2018/2019 Premier League campaign on Friday night — the Red Devils will host Leicester City at Old Trafford.
