Luke Shaw sends Phil Jones heartfelt message after Wolves defeat

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has told Phil Jones to be ‘proud’ of the performance he put out against Wolves tonight.

Man United interim manager Ralf Rangnick had to start Jones alongside Raphael Varane after Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly were all absent due to injury, illness, and international duty respectively.

Jones last played a game for Manchester United in 2019 due to injury issues and coach’s decisions.

However, he started for the Red Devils against the Wanderers in the Premier League and did an excellent job, forcing off several warm comments from the fans and Shaw of course.

The Manchester United left-back thought Phil Jones was exceptional against Wolves despite the criticism and urged the defender to be proud of himself.

“One thing I will say is Phil Jones should be proud of himself,” Shaw said after United’s 1-0 home defeat to Wolves.

“He has been criticised for years, and has gone through a lot, but he is so professional and he has trained heard anmd he was phenomenal.

“He was exceptional, I am very happy for him and he deserves it.”

Luke Shaw reacted to his side’s dire performance against Wolves and admitted that United started the game on the wrong foot.

“I think maybe at times it was clear to see, we didn’t have many options on the ball.,” Shaw added.

“We wasn’t on the front foot, it started from the first minute. We have to put some pressure on them; we have to have intensity.”
