Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand names his three best goalkeepers in the world

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has named David de Gea and two others as his three best goalkeepers in the world and also reserved special praises for Edouard Mendy.

The Chelsea goalkeeper impressed in the recently concluded AFCON, making a decisive save during the penalty shootout to help Senegal beat Egypt in the final.

This success came a few months after he had won the Champions League title and reached the FA Cup final with Chelsea.

Mendy is arguably the best shot-stopper in Europe in recent months and Rio Ferdinand doesn’t think otherwise, as the Manchester United legend named the Chelsea goalie amongst his top three best goalies in the world.

David de Gea of Man United and Ederson of Man City made Ferdinand‘s cut but the former England international believes Mendy is the best among the three.

De Gea has been brilliant for Manchester United this season, making three penalty saves and countless big saves already while Ederson has also been great at City.

Speaking on the FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: ‘If I was picking a goalkeeper right now in the world, I think my top three keepers would be – and maybe people say you’re biased because of the Premier League – but it would be Mendy, Ederson, and on form right now De Gea.

Mendy stands out for me, especially in this last year, he’s been impeccable.’

Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup on Friday after losing to Middlesbrough 8-7 on penalties, forcing Dean Henderson, who stood in place of the Spaniard to receive criticism from Roy Keane after his inability to make a single penalty save.

De Gea is expected to return back to the starting lineup when Man United play visitors to Burnley on Tuesday night in the Premier League.

The former Atletico Madrid goalie was voted as Manchester United’s Player of the Month of January after he had won the award the previous month. He was also voted as the Premier League Player of the Month of January, making him the first goalkeeper since 2016 to win the award.
