Manchester United fans slammed Scott McTominay after spotting mistake vs Wolves

Several Manchester United fans have called out Scott McTominay for his inability to scan behind him before receiving a pass in the midfield against Wolves.

Man United were dreadful against the Wanderers and as a result, they recorded a well-deserved 1-0 defeat at home.

Though it was a collective poor performance from Manchester United, several fans spotted an error McTominay made in the midfield, which ended up nullifying what could have been an attacking chance for the beleaguered Reds.

Nemanja Matic found McTominay unmarked in the midfield and passed the ball superbly to the Scot.

The 25-year-old midfielder scanned his position twice before signaling a pass from the Serbian but ended up losing possession after Coady read the situation correctly.

Manchester United fans have called out the Scotland international for his poor reading of the situation and suggested that a proper midfielder should have scanned the situation over and over before getting the pass.

The author of the tweet said: “A good player scans up to 50 times in that situation but he scanned twice and look at his body posture, zero protection for the ball in a crowded zone he wants to make a quick turn despite knowing there’s an opp closing him down. This is literally the basic for a pro.”

A Man United fan defended McTominay, hailing him as United’s only midfielder averaging the least number of losses in the midfield.

“5 players behind the ball. Mctominay doing what the coach want him to do. Be vertical on and off the ball. Classic ragnick ball. Y’all acting like Donny didn’t do that or pogba never done that. Fact is Mctominay average the least ball losses in our midfield.”

Some fans would rather compliment the Wolves defender for his accurate timing of the situation.

A fan tweets: “Good defending.”

Another said: “I mean I’m not even a Man UTD / McTominay fan but that defender timed his run perfectly…”
