Manchester United are reportedly leading the transfer race to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, according to reports.
Man United are eager to improve their midfield this month, having failed to finalise what was described as a top priority signing for former boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer needed a defensive midfielder last summer and Neves was one of the holding midfielders that was linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Man United showed interest in signing a defensive midfielder for the Norwegian but had their plans changed after Cristiano Ronaldo was made available in the transfer market by Juventus.
Though Ralf Rangnick was appointed as Manchester United’s interim manager, reports suggest that United are ready to back the German manager in the transfer market as their interest in signing a defensive midfielder remains a priority.
As a result, several players are continued to be linked with moves to Old Trafford, with Neves also making headlines.
According to talkSPORT, the Wolves midfielder, Ruben Neves, is a transfer target for Manchester United and the Red Devils are reportedly leading the race for his signature.
The same report holds that the West Midland side are demanding £50million from the midfielder’s suitors.
The Portuguese midfielder is regarded as one of the finest central midfielders in the league and he played a huge role in Wolves’ 1-0 win over Manchester United on Monday.
Should Man United attempt to sign Neves this month, then they would let go of a midfielder this winter market.
Donny van de Beek is keen on leaving the club in search of regular playing time and could get his much-needed exit this month, as a result, providing the space needed to get Neves’ deal over the line.
Declan Rice is also a transfer target for United but reports are suggesting that West Ham would demand over £100 million for the midfielder’s services.
Manchester United defensive midfielders Fred, Nemanja Matic, and Scott McTominay have not really impressed the majority of the fans and as a result, they have endured widespread criticism.
United lost 1-0 to Wolves at home and the likes of Matic and McTominay, who played as a double pivot, were criticised for their dreadful performances, with the latter getting blamed for Joao Moutinho’s late goal.
