Manchester United receive transfer huge boost in Frenkie de Jong pursuit

Manchester United are reportedly increasingly confident of signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong after the midfielder has reportedly agreed to make the switch.

Man United are poised on signing at least two midfielders, following the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic at the end of this month.

Frenkie de Jong has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford and many outlets have claimed the Netherlands international would be a direct replacement for Pogba.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United have stepped up negotiations with Barcelona after the Dutchman gave the green light for a move to United having initially being reluctant to leave.

Another source, The Athletics, have reported that the 26-year-old now finds a move to the Theatre of Dreams ‘appealing’ but the only obstacle behind the deal is Barca’s valuation of the player.

The Catalans value the midfielder between £60m to £80m and both United and Barcelona would agree on a transfer fee first before the deal can go through.

Rafael Van der Vaart has already backed the former Ajax midfielder to dump Barcelona for Manchester United as he believes De Jong would thrive at United just as he’s doing in the Netherlands national team.

“I will explain to you why Frenkie is so good at the National Team, because he’s the ONLY midfielder with these type of qualities here and he does what he wants,” Van der Vaart said. “At Barça there is Pedri.. Gavi.. Busquets.. and so on. All of a sudden he starts adjusting again.

“At Manchester United it will be just like at the National Team, being the only one with his type of qualities. I would move to Manchester United if I was him, just do it!

“The Premier League is a heaven for midfielders. Everyone says ‘it’s quick!’ but it only looks like a fast paced game because players lose the ball a lot there. Just look at Bergkamp, you can enjoy yourself there. I enjoyed myself there too.”
