Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has been withdrawn from the France squad with an injury.
The Man United defender was called to join up with the France national team ahead of the ongoing UEFA Nations League competition after he endured what many has described as a disappointed season for Manchester United.
Varane, who started at the back against Denmark on Friday night, got injured midway through the second half and William Saliba, Arsenal’s defender, was brought in as his replacement.
Following the 29-year-old’s substitution, France lost their 1-0 lead when Denmark came from behind to stage a shock 2-1 win away from home.
The Manchester United defender decided to withdraw himself from the France squad in a bid to focus on his recovery process.
As a result, France decided to call up Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konatè into the French team for the first time to replace the ex-Real Madrid star.
France assistant manager Guy Stephan said via Daily Mail: “Raphaël [Varane] has a muscular problem behind the thigh.
“He felt some pain [against Denmark]. He’s also going to take medical exams as well.”
