Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly very close to sealing a move to Newcastle United, according to reports.
Man United’s second-choice goalkeeper, Henderson, could make a summer move to Newcastle, after failing to beat David de Gea and become United’s first-choice goalie.
The Englishman, who spent two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, threatened to take de Gea’s place last season with his top performances.
Many Manchester United fans expected Henderson to start in goal in the Europa League final against Villarreal but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to go with David de Gea, who would miss a crucial penalty kick that cost United the cup.
There were reports claiming the Spaniard might have eventually savaged his Man United career as a result of that, which handed Henderson a huge boost to remain at Old Trafford and finish the job off.
However, de Gea came back stronger this season and kept Henderson on the bench with his top performances. Many are touting the Spanish international and Cristiano Ronaldo as United’s two best players this season.
The outlet report that Deano is on the verge of joining The Magpies. Sources say Henderson was in Newcastle for talks on Wednesday and a deal is 99% done.
They added that discussions have been held over a season-long loan but a permanent transfer has not been ruled out.
Should Henderson eventually join Newcastle this summer, he would be one of the few players including Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani, who wouldn’t be at the club by the time Erik ten Hag takes completely over from Ralf Rangnick as United’s next manager.
Henderson was in goal when Manchester United lost 1-0 to West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup.
