Manchester United could join Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in the transfer race to sign Darwin Nunez if they seal Champions League football, according to reports.
Man United are expected to splash the cash at the end of the season in a bid to catch up with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
United’s next permanent boss is expected to bring in some players into the squad in the summer and the attacking front line is expected to be upgraded.
The likes of Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata are expected to leave in June when their contracts expire and Anthony Martial could also follow suit.
The Red Devils will reportedly join the likes of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid to lure Darwin Nunez away from Benfica if they finish in the top-four this season.
According to The Telegraph, the 22-year-old is set to leave the Portuguese side in the summer but will only move to a club playing Champions League football.
Brighton and Hove Albion attempted to lure Nunez from Benfica last summer but failed in their bid. Newcastle United and West Ham United came knocking for his signature in January but failed to convince the Uruguay international to dump Benfica.
As it stands, Atletico Madrid are now the top favourites to sign Nunez, who would cost at least £60 million but should Manchester United make a top-four finish this term, they might be able to persuade the striker to move to Old Trafford instead.
Darwin Nunez is one of the most highly sought-after forwards in Europe, thanks to his scintillating form that has resulted in 26 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for Benfica.
