Mauricio Pochettino breaks silence after 'Manchester United players want him' reports emerged

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino warned that he remains 200% focused at Parc des Princes despite Manchester United regular speculation.

Reports emerged this week that the majority of Man United players want Pochettino as their new manager at Old Trafford.

The former Tottenham manager was an aspirant after Manchester United sacked Jose Mourinho in 2017 but lost the chance, thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s impressive results as interim manager.

Last year, the Argentine boss was linked with a move to Old Trafford yet again following the sacking of Solskjaer due to a poor run of form.

However, United eventually appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager after they found it complex to lure him away from Paris midway through the season.

Erik ten Hag was also a target for Manchester United but faced the same issue as Mauricio Pochettino.

Rangnick has had a rollercoaster experience since moving to Old Trafford, with some players now complaining about the German’s playing pattern, with some suggesting that the former RB Leipzig shouldn’t be made permanent boss.

PSG will face Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16 later this month, a draw that could prove pivotal to Pochettino’s future with the Parisians.

Ex-Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has been touted as the right man to replace the Argentine should PSG decide to part company with the ex-Spurs boss at the end of the season, freeing him up to finally sealing his long-awaited move to Man United and convince Tottenham star Harry Kane to join him at United.

Questioned on that possibility, Mauricio Pochettino told Cadena Ser: ‘I don’t know, it’s not up to me to decide.

‘Zidane is a great coach, he already showed it at Real Madrid. He can train anywhere in the world. In addition to this, he’s French. That is one more question for the sporting director or the president.’

The Manchester United managerial candidate was asked whether he sees himself taking charge of the Real Madrid senior team in the nearest future.

‘I go step by step, like Cholo Simeone (laughs),” Pochettino continued. “I think you have to enjoy the moments. We cannot be thinking about what is going to come.

‘We have to be concentrated and focused on what we have now and football will have whatever it wants with us later.

‘We are responsible for doing our best and giving 100% for the club we work for. We are 200% focused on PSG and on giving this club the happiness they expect from us.’

Erik ten Hag is expected to be available in the summer and is touted as a top rival to Mauricio Pochettino.

Some reports claim that Ralf Rangnick has viewed the Ajax boss as the right candidate to take Manchester United forward but the Man United board see Pochettino as their ideal permanent boss.

Furthermore, Spain national coach Luis Enrique has been added to the list as well and United are reportedly trying to convince the former Barcelona manager to dump the Spanish national team for the Red Devils.
