Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has revealed the nickname his teammates have given him and tried to explain why they call him that.
Matic says his teammates call him ‘The Wolf’ because they feel the Serbian midfielder always finds his way to be part of the winning side in training.
During Manchester United’s recent Fans’ Q&A session, a Nigerian fan Apeh K asked the midfielder, who provides an assist to Marcus Rashford against Tottenham, what his nickname was and the former Chelsea midfielder had a sly grin before letting all out, though he struggled to understand why his teammates call him that.
He was asked: ‘All the lads seem to have special nicknames – do they have one for you?’
“Well, Apeh my nickname is ‘The Wolf’,” said Matic. “They call me ‘The Wolf’ but I don’t know why. You have to ask to them.
“They call me ‘The Wolf’, I don’t know, they said I always find a way to win in the training sessions.
“They say, basically, that I am cheating. I don’t know. Wolves never cheat!”
