Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has backed West Ham United to cause Manchester United ‘some problems’ in the final third but thinks the game is suited for a draw.
Man United recorded a 3-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday night, thanks to goalscorers Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.
Though Manchester United stole the headlines after the victory, Brentford gave what Merson describes as a ‘footballing lesson’ and the Red Devils needed David de Gea to make some decent saves to keep the score line even at halftime.
West Ham United, on the other hand, have struggled in their recent games, this Merson is aware of, losing 3-2 at home to Leeds United.
Regardless, Merson expects David Moyes’ side to cause Manchester United trouble in the final third and explains why he can’t back United to get all three points at Old Trafford.
“West Ham are not particularly consistent either – just when you think they’re back, they go and lose to Leeds at home.
“I just can’t bring myself to predict a Manchester United win at the moment, however, and I think West Ham will cause them some problems in the final third.”
Merson predicts the final score of the Premier League top-four clash will be 1-1 after the full-time whistle.
Manchester United are occupying the 7th position with 35 points and are two points behind West Ham United, who have played a game more.
