Paul Pogba: Juventus new signing says he wants to emulate Manchester United midfielder

Former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria says he wants to emulate Paul Pogba after sealing a move to Juventus.

Manchester United were linked with a move to sign the midfielder last month but subsequently lost the race after Zakaria signed for Juve.

Upon joining the Old Lady, the defensive midfielder during his interview promised to walk in Pogba’s foot steps and become as successful as the Frenchman, during his time at Turin.

The World Cup winner left Manchester United in 2012 as a free agent but would go on to develop himself as one of the world’s best in his position.

Pogba won three Serie A titles including other domestic trophies before sealing a return back to Manchester United for a reported £89million fee.

At a press conference, Zakaria said: “We all know Paul Pogba, we know what he did and left to Juve.

“I hope to have the same success he did, but I have my identity and I hope to find my path and leave my mark.”

When asked to describe his style of play the former Monchengladbach workhorse told Man United exactly what they had missed out on in the January transfer window.

United were keen on signing a defensive midfielder in a bid to tighten their backline and connect to the attacking line, something United’s Fred and Scott McTominay have received widespread criticism for failing to do so far.

The Switzerland international said: “Juventus are a strong team, with a lot of quality, I think arriving here compared to Germany is a great step forward for me, I hope to be able to progress too.

“Describe my characteristics? I am aggressive, I love to recover the ball, but also to defend and help, I can describe myself as a fairly complete player.”
