Former England star Paul Scholes has claimed that Erik ten Hag could stop Jesse Lingard from leaving Manchester United this summer.
Man United last week announced Ten Hag as their next manager and will takeover from Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.
United will look to rebuild their squad in the summer in a bid to help the Dutchman challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for top honours.
As a result, a good number of players including Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, will leave the club in June as free agents.
Lingard left Man United last year to West Ham United on a loan deal and became a revelation under David Moyes.
However, the England international has struggled to play regular this season and is set on leaving the club, with West Ham United and Newcastle United among teams vying for his signature.
Scholes described Lingard as a ‘really good’ player and claimed that the 28-year-old could make a U-turn and sign a new deal with United if Ten Hag feels the midfielder suits his philosophy.
“I think he might suit him [Erik Ten Hag] and he might want to keep him. We will see what happens.
“It’s obvious he never wants to leave Manchester United, and if this manager wants him then why wouldn’t he stay?”
