Predicted Manchester United starting lineup vs Arsenal: Two changes expected

Manchester United will look to continue their unbeaten run under Michael Carrick when they host in-form Arsenal at Old Trafford on Thursday night in the Premier League.

Man United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last two weekends following a disappointing, massive 4-1 away defeat to Watford.

Since his sacking, the Red Devils have come up against Villarreal and Chelsea in the Champions League and Premier League respectively but Carrick, United’s caretaker manager, remains unbeaten.

United secured a comfortable 2-0 win at Villarreal despite a dreadful first-half performance. The Reds would go on to score first before settling for a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Now, the former England midfielder will look to continue his unbeaten run when they host the Gunners, who comfortably beat Newcastle United 2-0 last weekend at the Emirates Stadium.

Carrick benched Cristiano Ronaldo against Chelsea as he wanted the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford pressed the Blues tirelessly and his tactics worked after Sancho got the opener early in the second half.

As a result, the Englishman added an extra central midfielder, making it Nemanja Matic, Fred, and Scott McTominay in the middle park.

We expect Carrick to reverse to a front three against Arsenal, introducing Ronaldo to lead United’s attack alongside Rashford and Sancho.

Cristiano Ronaldo expected to start for Manchester United vs Arsenal

Harry Maguire missed the Stamford Bridge clash due to suspension but has returned to the squad, giving Carrick a decision to drop either Eric Bailly or Victor Lindelof for the skipper.

Hence, below is our predicted Manchester United starting lineup vs Arsenal;

GK: David de Gea
DF: Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles
MF: McTominay, Fred, Fernandes
FW: Sancho, Ronaldo, Rashford

Manchester United will be without the likes of Paul Pogba, Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani due to injury issues.

Speaking about United’s injury update, Carrick told MUTV: “Edi’s [Cavani] back on the grass. He’s working outside with the strength and conditioning guys so he’s back on the grass.

“Rapha’s [Varane] a little bit further away and Paul’s [Pogba] a little bit further away as well, so nothing too immediate, I’m afraid.”

Mason Greenwood has fully recovered from COVID-19 and was an unused substitute against Chelsea last Sunday.
