Manchester United will look to maintain their momentum against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League round of 16 return leg.
Man United bounced back to winning ways last weekend when they beat Tottenham 3-2 at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned back into the mix, scored a hat-trick to hand Manchester United all three points against Spurs.
The likes of Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes missed the clash due to lack of fitness and illness respectively but the pair are in contention to feature against Atletico.
Both midfielders were in training on Monday, boosting Manchester United’s chances of going through to the last eight with a win over the La Liga side.
Ralf Rangnick’s comments during his press conference on Monday hinted that the likes of Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane could start at the back against Atleti.
Harry Maguire scored an own-goal against Spurs and was awful against Manchester City last two weekends. While this clash is a crucial one, the German boss wouldn’t want to gamble on starting Maguire at the back.
“He’s very important but with Victor Lindelof, we have also won quite a few games and played well and had quite a few clean sheets,’ said Rangnick on Monday.
“Right now, we have top players in the centre of defence and it will not be so easy for me to take that decision for tomorrow.
“We looked after him and he looked after himself, not playing too early again. Now he seems to be fit on a regular basis.”
We expect Lindelof and Varane at the back, unless something else went wrong in the build-up to the game and also expect birthday boy Paul Pogba to be dropped for Bruno Fernandes but that’s a huge call to be made.
The France star wasn’t really in the game against Tottenham despite playing behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the attack. But we expect Aaron Wan-Bissaka to replace Diogo Dalot. Rangnick explained ahead of the Spurs game that both fullbacks will play in each game.
We are expecting the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof to come into the team for Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic and Harry Maguire respectively.
Below is our predicted Manchester United starting lineup against Atletico Madrid, with Ronaldo, Rashford and Jadon Sancho maintaining their starting roles.
GK: David de Gea
DF: Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Varane, Telles
MF: Fred, McTominay, Pogba
FW: Rashford, Ronaldo, Sancho
