Ralf Rangnick concedes top-four defeat ahead of Man United vs Chelsea clash

Ralf Rangnick concedes top-four defeat ahead of Man United vs Chelsea clash

Ralf Rangnick has conceded that Manchester United are more likely to finish outside the top-four ahead of their clash against Chelsea.

Man United were firmly one of the favourites to finish in the Premier League top-four in the last few weeks but their recent results have nearly pushed them off the Champions League spots.

United recorded back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal last week. As a result, they find themselves six points behind 4th-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

Manchester United could further suffer yet another top-four setback as they are poised on facing Chelsea with an injury-stricken squad.

The German boss admitted that it is more realistic to imagine United finishing outside the Champions League places than making a shock comeback into the mix.

“We have four more games to play, the next two games are at home at Old Trafford and we will try to get as many points and win as many games as we possibly can,” Rangnick said ahead of the Chelsea clash.

“In order to do that we need to play on the best level we possibly can.

“I don’t think it makes sense now to still speak and speculate about the Champions League, we need to be realistic.

“Even if we win all four games it’s not in our hands, what is in our hands is how we play, our level of performance. It’s important for this season to finish on the best possible note.”
