Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes is racing against time to be fit to face Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League.
Bruno Fernandes missed last weekend’s 3-2 win over Tottenham in the Premier League, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick in his absence.
The Portuguese star missed the tie due to illness and Rangnick has confirmed that the prolific midfielder, who provided the assist to Manchester United’s equaliser in the return leg is a doubt for the return leg at Old Trafford.
And also, the German boss would confirm that Luke Shaw has returned to the mix ahead of the crucial encounter. Shaw missed United’s last two games against Manchester City and Tottenham with COVID-19.
“This will probably be a last-minute race with him. We have to be careful with COVID tests. David [de Gea] was the same.”
Manchester United are obviously not three of the favourites to win the Champions League title this season, despite having Cristiano Ronaldo in the team, that’s down to the team’s lack of consistency.
“On Sunday, I almost felt like we were at a funeral, that it’s already dead,” Rangnick said when asked if Man United can win the UCL.
