Ralf Rangnick confirms Victor Lindelof will miss West Ham United tie after home invasion

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Victor Lindelof will miss West Ham United’s clash after the defender requested to be with his family after burglars attacked his home.

Lindelof’s home was invaded on Wednesday while he was out representing Man United against Brentford.

According to Manchester United’s statement, the Swede’s family were ‘unhurt but clearly shaken’ during the distressing experience.

Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that the former Benfica defender will miss Saturday’s top-four clash against West Ham United in order for the defender to spend some time with his family.

“He [Victor Lindelöf] said to me right now he needs to stay at home, he doesn’t want to leave his wife and family on their own, which I can fully understand being a father of two children myself,” Rangnick told MUTV.

“We agreed he will not be on duty tomorrow for the game [vs West Ham United].

“I spoke with him [Lindelöf] at length on our flight back home from London and also this morning.

“We spoke for 20 or 25 minutes, he told me what actually happened, that this was a traumatic event, especially for his wife and three- year-old son.”

In Lindelof’s absence, Rangnick would still have some quality options at the back. The likes of Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, and Raphael Varane are available at his disposal.
