Ralf Rangnick explains why Bruno Fernandes missed Manchester United vs Tottenham clash

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Bruno Fernandes missed the Tottenham clash due to illness.

Man United will push for a win this evening when they host Spurs at Old Trafford in the Premier League, having endured an embarrassing 4-1 loss to Manchester City last weekend.

United will do so without the likes of Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw and Fernandes.

Though Rangnick has ruled out the Portuguese star against Spurs, the German boss hopes to have the prolific midfielder back in the squad against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the Champions League.

“He [Bruno Fernandes] got ill unfortunately yesterday,” Rangnick told MUTV ahead of the Spurs kickoff. “He could not train and cannot play. Hopefully back for Tuesday but he’s out.

David de Gea initially was ruled out of the Tottenham clash due to COVID-19 but was later brought back into the team after it was made aware that the Spanish goalie provided a false positive test.

“We had a false positive test on David de Gea last night but we then decided to have second test, which was negative, then a PCR test, which was negative again,” Rangnick added. “That’s why we can play him after all.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka started on the bench for Diogo Dalot ahead of next week’s clash against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford returned back to the starting lineup as well as Cristiano Ronaldo, who both will start alongside Jadon Sancho.
