Ralf Rangnick explains why Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford were benched vs Brighton

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has claimed that he benched Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford vs Brighton and Hove Albion due to tactical reasons.

Man United are anxious to get back to winning ways and they will look to get it against Brighton, who are unbeatable in their last eight Premier League matches, without Pogba and Rashford.

Marcus Rashford returning back to the bench was foreseen by many fans, given how dreadful he has been in recent games.

But Pogba’s decision would raise some eyebrows as he has been one of the best players on the pitch for Manchester United since marking his return against Middlesbrough.

The Frenchman started three matches in a row and put out top performances but Rangnick says he dropped the World Cup winner because he needed fresh legs in the starting XI.

On Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba on the bench, Rangnick told MUTV: “It’s a bit about fresh legs after both Paul [Pogba] and Marcus [Rashford] played in the last couple of games.

“Paul coming back from a long-term injury. That was the idea behind that.”

Fred replaced Paul Pogba to start alongside Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes in the midfield.

Anthony Elanga replaced Marcus Rashford to complete an attacking trio alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
