Ralf Rangnick is reportedly pushing Manchester United to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer in the summer, according to reports in Germany.

After missing out on a defensive midfield signing last summer, Man United’s top priority after appointing their new manager is to sign at least one midfielder, given the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future.

Several top players including the likes of Declan Rice and Ruben Neves have been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford as a direct replacement for Pogba, who will be a free agent in June.

Rangnick, who would become a consultant at Manchester United after the end of the season, has recommended Konrad Laimer to The Red Devils and is said to be pushing the club to seal the midfielder’s signature in the summer, according to BILD.

The German outlet also reported that Tottenham are monitoring the Austrian international’s situation at Leipzig, with his current deal with RB Leipzig set to expire at the end of next season.

Several Man United fans rate the midfielder highly, with one describing the Austrian as the ‘workhorse’ at Leipzig.

@EvinPaulDaniel tweeted: “Rangnick knows ball.Konrad Laimer is a top class midfielder. Hope he comes to us. He is a pressing DM and known as the workhorse in the midfield of RB Leipzig.”

Another Man United fan suggested that if Declan Rice is out of reach, then Laimer should be of interest to Manchester United.

“Really good player, if we can’t get Rice he’d be a great alternative,” tweeted @danthemandigeon.
