Ralf Rangnick reveals most 'important part' of Manchester United's win vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has claimed that the clean sheet they got against Crystal Palace was the most ‘important part’ of the game.

Man United hadn’t kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since their 3-0 win over Tottenham in October.

United were solid against Palace and were unlucky not to have broken the deadlock in the first half, thanks to their high pressing.

In the second half, Palace improved their performance, hence why United sat deep, waiting to cause mayhem on the break.

Fred scored with a beautiful curl midway through the second half and the Reds were forced to properly defend their narrow lead, a performance that caught Rangnick’s attention.

“The way we defended, we had control of the whole game, the clean sheet was the most important part,” Rangnick told BBC.

“These are the things we must improve. We need to keep clean sheets. With just the one training session, I was really impressed. We did better than expected.

“We always tried to be on the front foot. We were never not apart from maybe the last five minutes.

“At all other times we were trying to keep them away from our goal.

“It’s always easier to build on things after you’re successful. We must produce further clean sheets and get better at creating chances for our attack. Overall I was very pleased with the way we played today.”
