Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo missed the Aston Villa clash due to a hip injury.
Ronaldo last featured for Man United against Wolves but it ended in a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
United would bounce back to winning ways against Aston Villa in the FA Cup but Ronaldo wasn’t part of the squad due to an injury he suffered against the Wanderers.
Rangnick has revealed that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has sat out today’s game with an injury issue.
Rangnick said before the game: “Cristiano Ronaldo is out with a hip flexor injury and couldn’t train on Friday.”
The German boss benched Harry Maguire after the England international returned from an injury that ruled him out of United’s last two games against Wolves and Aston Villa.
Rangnick on Maguire being benched: “Harry [Maguire] was out for two weeks, he doesn’t have any problems anymore, but I decided to keep the two centre-backs from the cup game.”
Marcus Rashford was also not part of the Manchester United squad against Villa.
