Ralf Rangnick reveals why Fred left Carrington 20 minutes after he arrived on Monday

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Fred left Carrington 20 minutes after he arrived because he has contracted COVID-19.

The Brazilian international was seen leaving Man United’s Carrington 20 minutes after he had arrived for training ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Burnley.

Fred was a second half substitute during Manchester United’s defeat to Middlesbrough on penalties, when he replaced Paul Pogba late on in the game.

Speaking ahead of the game against the Clarets, Rangnick confirmed Fred has contracted coronavirus, after Alex Telles missed the Friday’s game against Boro because he tested positive for the virus last week.

Rangnick told MUTV: “Alex Telles already missed the cup game because he tested COVID positive last week and, unfortunately, the same thing happened today with Fred.

“That’s why he will be missing from tomorrow’s game and possibly even the game against Southampton.”

In the 28-year-old’s absence, Ralf Rangnick has the likes of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, who can play in Fred’s role.

Pogba made his long-term return against Middlesbrough and put out a superb performance, which attracted special comments off the German tactician.
