Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has ruled out Eric Bailly of tomorrow’s game against Middlesbrough.
Man United will play visitors against Middlesbrough on Friday in the FA Cup fourth round without Bailly in their squad.
The Ivorian defender took part in the ongoing AFCON competition and only came back to Manchester on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Rangnick told MUTV: “Eric Bailly came back yesterday, he has some problems with his ankle and will not be part of the squad.”
The German boss also ruled Edinson Cavani out of the clash, stating that the Uruguay international requested to spend a few more days with his family.
Cavani scored an acrobatic goal during Uruguay’s 4-1 win over Venezuela on Wednesday in the World Cup Qualifiers game.
“Edi Cavani will only return at the weekend, he contacted me at the weekend and asked to have two more days at home, I knew he couldn’t be in starting XI with jet lag anyway,” said Rangnick.
Newcastle United transfer target Jesse Lingard would miss tomorrow’s game as well after his failed exit from the club last month.
Rangnick said the England international requested to get a few days more in order to be fit mentally after his disappointed failed move to St James’ Park in the winter market.
“He [Jesse Lingard] asked me & the club if we could give him a couple of days off just to clear up his mind & he’ll be back in the group, I suppose, Monday, back for training & then be a regular part of the whole squad again,” said Rangnick.
Manchester United have some good news though after the former RB Leipzig manager said Paul Pogba will be in the squad for tomorrow’s game.
The interim manager even suggested that Pogba, who last played a game in November against Atalanta in the Champions League, could make the starting lineup.
Luke Shaw will also be in the starting lineup against Middlesbrough, confirms Rangnick.
“Luke [Shaw] will be back [for the game vs Middlesbrough] and will probably play from the beginning.”
