Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Thiago Alcantara wanted a move to Manchester United before agreeing to join Liverpool.
Alcantara moved to Anfield last two seasons from Bayern Munich after being linked with a move to Man United, during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.
The Spaniard endured mixed reactions in his first season at Liverpool due to injury setbacks and lack of form but this season, he’s played a role in Jurgen Klopp’s side’s run for a quadruple.
Ferdinand said he had a chat with the Liverpool midfielder and the 31-year-old told him his initial plan was to join The Red Devils.
“He wanted to come to United, but if you look at him now, he could not be happier.”
Manchester United are expected to splash the cash in the summer in a bid to back their new boss Erik ten Hag in the transfer window.
United will look to rebuild their squad at the end of the season, with over five senior players including Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba set on leaving the club in the summer.
