Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel admitted he was left ‘shocked’ by his former club’s defending against Declan Rice’s Arsenal goal.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a fine effort but Arsenal responded well immediately with a fine finish from Martin Odegaard.
Alejandro Garnacho restored Man United’s lead but his effort was ruled out for an offside.
The Gunners, a few minutes later, completed their comeback after Declan Rice scored from Martin Odegaard’s corner.
The former West Ham United midfielder had an acre of space inside United’s box before releasing a shot too powerful for Andre Onana to stop.
Peter Schmeichel was marvelled by United’s reluctance to close in on the England international and admitted United’s defeat was a ‘terrible’ way to lose a game.
Speaking after the goal, the Danish said: “I’ve got no words…I’m shocked. It’s a terrible way to lose a game.
“Manchester United defended so badly for the corner at the end, Declan Rice had so much time and the goalkeeper should save it.”
