"They were dreadful" — Roy Keane slams two players after Manchester United's loss to Middlesbrough on penalties

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has described the likes of Dean Henderson and Joe Lumley, Middlesbrough’s goalie, as ‘dreadful’ after they failed to make any save during the penalty shootout.

Man United’s FA Cup journey ended at Old Trafford after they lost 8-7 on penalties against the Championship side.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring in the first half but Matt Crook would score a controversial equaliser in the second half.

The Red Devils missed loads of big chances in both halves  and could have easily get done with Middlesbrough already in the first half if they were clinical enough.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed from the penalty spot when his effort went off target and would go on to miss both efforts from inside the box after Sancho had earlier hit the crossbar.

The tie was forced to settle on penalties after both sides failed to score in the extra time.

Both Dean Henderson and Joe Lumley failed to get a touch in any of the 16 penalty kicks, with Anthony Elanga’s kick flying over the goal post.

And Keane believes both goalkeepers were dreadful to watch and were nowhere close to saving any.

Roy Keane told ITV: “The two goalkeepers [Henderson & Lumley] were dreadful in the penalty shootout.

“They got nowhere near them.”

Bruno Fernandes also missed from a goal-scoring position, Marcus Rashford as well and Ralf Rangnick admitted he was disappointed by his side’s inept display in front of the goal post.

Rangnick added: “Incredibly disappointed, we should have won and killed off the game in the first half.

“Crossbar, post, missed penalty and numerous chances. It should have been 2-0 or 3-0.”
