Thierry Henry claims Luke Shaw forced Manchester United star to be 'lethal' during Burnley clash

Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry has claimed that it was Luke Shaw who was forcing Jadon Sancho to take on players during the Burnley clash on Thursday.

Man United bounced back to winning ways after beating the Clarets 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring before Ben Mee’s own goal doubled their lead. Halfway through the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo scored United’s third goal but the home side failed to keep a clean sheet after Aaron Lennon pulled a goal back before the first half whistle.

Jadon Sancho started the game alongside the likes of Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood in the front line and his performance, according to many, was decent.

The England international came close to getting on the score sheet but his effort was counted as an own goal for Ben Mee.

Thierry Henry was personally not pleased with the way Sancho avoids taking on players down the flank and urged the youngster to always take the game to his opponents, something he claimed it was Shaw who forced him to dribble the players during a one-on-one situation.

Henry told Amazon Prime: “Those are the types of players you want to watch, but he [Jadon Sancho] is playing within himself.

“When you are in a one-on-one, you should take a player on. But it was Luke Shaw who was forcing him to take on those one-on-ones.

“What happened to beating your man on the outside? They often want to go too much inside. Just beat your man on the outside and be lethal.”
