Two words Cristiano Ronaldo said after Wayne Rooney told Man Utd to sell him

Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted after former England forward Wayne Rooney advised Manchester United to offload him in the summer because the Portuguese star isn’t doing enough for the team.

Man United resigned Ronaldo from Juventus last summer in order to advance Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s chances of challenging Man City and Liverpool for the big honours.

Unfortunately, the Norwegian boss was sacked in November after he failed to arrest the club’s run of dismal performances.

That didn’t prove to be the solution behind United’s run of poor form, with several pundits pointing fingers at Cristiano Ronaldo as a problem in the Manchester United team.

The Portuguese star has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season at 38 years of age, proving that he isn’t a problem at Old Trafford, just as many had claimed.

And Wayne Rooney became the latest to point fingers at the former Real Madrid forward, suggesting that The Red Devils should sell Ronaldo and sign younger players that are hungry for success.

Asked if Ronaldo’s signing has worked out for United, Rooney told Sky Sports: “You’d have to say no, at the minute.

“I think he’s scored goals, he’s scored important goals in the Champions League early on in the season. He scored the hat-trick against Tottenham.

“But I think if you look to the future of the club you would have to go with younger, hungry players to do the best to lift Manchester United over these next two, three years.

“And obviously Cristiano is getting on a bit. He certainly isn’t the player he was when he was in his 20s. And that happens, that’s football. He’s a goal threat but I think the rest of the game they need more, they need young, hungry players.”

But Cristiano Ronaldo has hit back at his former United teammate with a blunt comment on Instagram.

The Manchester United all-time leading goalscorer had posted a picture of himself on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show alongside host Dave Jones and fellow pundit Jamie Carragher, but Ronaldo replied: “Two jealous.”
