Wayne Rooney enlightens Lionel Messi about Man United transfer

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has enlightened Lionel Messi that he could win his seventh Ballon d’Or at Old Trafford because of Bruno Fernandes.

The Argentine forward has reportedly made his desire to leave Barcelona in the summer known and is ready to exercise a clause in his contract that would allow him to depart for free.

The Catalans support those terms that would allow a free transfer expired on June 10 and he is contracted until 2021 with a £700 million release clause.

Messi’s humiliating exit from the Champions League to Bayern Munich has kept him worried about his future at Barcelona and has seriously thought about dumping the La Liga giants this summer.

Following the shock transfer update, several top clubs including Man City and Man United have since shown interest in Barcelona legend are eager to hand Messi his desire to challenge for top individual and club honours.

As such, Rooney believes only Kevin de Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes in the Premier League are capable of extending the 34-year-old’s Ballon d’Or tally.

‘I know he’s getting older but he’s a player who no one has seen before,’ the Derby County player-coach told talkSPORT.

‘Messi has everything – he can create goals, score goals, dictate the game and is the best player of all time. ‘He’s one of the only players I’ve sat there and watched and been in awe.

‘Him and Cristiano Ronaldo have set a standard we won’t ever see again and are a different level.’

‘The United States shouldn’t be in his mindset at all because he’s too good for that level,’ Wayne Rooney added. ‘He is miles too good for that level.

‘He could come to the Premier League and be a Player of the Year. One million per cent.

‘If he surrounds himself with Kevin De Bruyne, with Bruno Fernandes, these types of players, he could win a seventh Ballon d’Or.’

Despite reports linking him with moves to the Premier League, a report from a very strong source claims that United are not interested in signing Lionel Messi, who has won 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League titles.
