Former England international Wayne Rooney has hailed Teden Mengi after the Manchester United academy star joined Derby County on a loan deal.
Mengi will spend the remainder of the season on loan with the Championship side under the guidance of club legend, Wayne Rooney.
The central defender trained with the first team on regular basis but was not able to make a single appearance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
In a bid to get the first-team experience and enough playing time, the Red Devils decided to let the centre-half join the Championship side on a temporary deal.
And Wayne Rooney, who now manages Derby senior team, believes the young defender maintains ‘great attributes’.
‘He has got great attributes which I feel can help us, he is quick and strong, he can play in a two at the back and in a three at the back.
‘It is a great experience for him, and he is ready to come into the squad and be available to play once obviously the paperwork is done.’
The Man United youngster Mengi, meanwhile, unveiled he had talks with Rooney before joining Derby in a temporary deal.
‘He has been brilliant,’Teden Mengi told RamsTV.
‘As soon as I found out Derby were interested, Wayne was on the phone. He was telling me what the club is about and what he wants from me. He has been brilliant with me so far.’
