Wayne Rooney names two Man United players to benefit from Cristiano Ronaldo signing

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has backed ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to make a huge impression on the likes of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Man United on Friday announced they have successfully reached a transfer fee agreement with Juventus over the signing of Ronaldo.

The former Real Madrid forward was linked with a move to Manchester City but United moved the quickest to seal his transfer.

Ronaldo is expected to have his medical in Portugal, while on international duty, and is expected to return to Manchester to complete the remaining transfer details.

Rooney was one of the many Manchester United legends, who warned Ronaldo against joining Manchester City, direct rivals to the Red Devils.

And he has now backed his ex-teammate to make a huge impression on the likes of Rashford, Greenwood, and other young players at United.

Wayne Rooney on Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing:

‘For the fans it will be great to see Cristiano back, it’s very exciting for everyone at the club,’ Rooney told talkSPORT.

‘And for his teammates, too, for some of those young lads in the dressing room, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, some of these young lads who have grown up watching him play at Old Trafford.

‘For them it would be a massive help, I’m sure.

‘He’ll bring his mentality to the club.

‘He’s still one of the best players in the world, so I think it’s a very good signing.’

Cristiano Ronaldo will not wear United’s iconic jersey No.7, which is currently donned by Edinson Cavani, due to a Premier League rule.
