What Ralf Rangnick said when asked about Erik ten Hag ahead of Everton trip

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick described Erik ten Hag as a ‘top coach’ when he was asked about the Dutchman during his pre-Everton conference.

Man United are expected to appoint ten Hag as their new boss, according to several sources, and will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s permanent replacement.

United reportedly held talks with Mauricio Pochettino, who has been a long-term target for Manchester United, but eventually thought the Ajax boss would be the right man to take the club back to the top.

Several reports claimed that Manchester United consulted Rangnick over who should be the club’s next boss and many sources claim the former RB Leipzig boss recommended Erik ten Hag.

However, when asked about who he thinks would be the next manager, the United interim boss resisted the temptation to bring the news out just yet but confirmed that he knows the coaches United had had interviews with.

Rangnick asked about Erik ten Hag: “I don’t intend to speak about any possible new managers.

“What I know is the managers they have spoken to are top coaches, if this includes Erik ten Hag, this is also true with him. But that’s all I can say.

“As you know, we have agreed upon a contract as an advisor and we will speak about that in the next couple of weeks I’m pretty sure – at the latest, the end of the season. But again, my focus is on tomorrow.

“I know which coaches they [Manchester United] have spoken to so far and that’s why I can say all of the coaches that have spoken to are top coaches.”

Manchester United will continue their top-four hunt this weekend when they play visitors to relegation-threatened Everton on Saturday lunchtime.
