Why Bruno Fernandes argued with match officials after Aston Villa draw

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was visibly frustrated at the match officials after the final whistle at Aston Villa.

The Man United midfielder, who captained United in Maguire’s absence, was furious at the officials for allowing the home side to make a 4th sub (usually only allowed for head injuries) but Buendia had hurt his shoulder.

The Red Devils started on the front foot and were rewarded with an early goal after Bruno Fernandes’ outside-the-box strike was good enough to beat Emiliano Martinez.

Villa came out strong in the second half and had a few decent chances to equalise the game but Manchester United somehow doubled their lead, thanks again to Fernandes.

Both Bruno Fernandes’ goals wouldn’t put off the Villans and their relentless pressing paid off after scoring two late goals to leave the tie at 2-2.

The Portuguese star claimed Man United controlled the game, even though it looked like Aston Villa were the better side, and said they deserved more than the draw they got.

“A tough one to take, the game was under control,” said Fernandes.

“After their first goal, they started to press us a bit more but we could have scored again.

“The shot was not good, the pass or run, then you start losing balls and confidence.

“The performance was better than the result, for sure. We controlled the game more, we deserved more.

“But the game is not about deserving and still a lot to improve on.”
