Manchester United have received a Champions League boost after Atletico Madrid forward Yannick Carrasco has been banned.
Man United will face the La Liga side next month in the Champions League round of 16 and their chances of going through may have been boosted after Carrasco’s update.
The Belgium international received a suspension after he was shown a straight red card during Atletico’s game against Porto in the group stage last year.
The ban means the Belgian, who has scored two goals and provided six assists in all competitions, will miss both legs of the round of 16 against Manchester United.
The 28-year-old started in all of Atletico’s six games at the group stage and his inability to feature against Man United will come as a big blow to the La Liga outfits but a blessing in disguise to United.
United’s draw against Atletico means it would be the second time they would come up against a Spanish team in the Champions League this season, having won Villarreal on both legs in the group stage.
